When pre-registration pharmacy graduates or newly qualified pharmacists first visit the wards they can have a propensity to concentrate on the drug chart, almost using drug therapy as a diagnostic tool. Once they gain familiarity with interpreting medical notes this becomes a new source of information. As confidence and interpersonal skills develop, they will discover that a great deal of information can be gleaned from the patient themselves and other health care professionals.
The objective for this online learning exercise is to highlight a further source of useful information to the training clinical pharmacist which is often overlooked - The appearance of the patient and the environment in which they rest. Carefully examine the adjacent picture and try to identify things which could have a potential impact on the patient's pharmaceutical care. You can then click on the object to find out if you are right. |
